Dr. Markelle Smith, DMD | NYC Dentist
I was born in the small town of Demopolis, Alabama and I'm the middle of three siblings. Surrounded by loving family and friends, I spent all of my formative years there. I graduated with honors from Demopolis High and went on to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where I began to explore different career options. Seeing how my mother cared for others as a nurse, I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps with a career in healthcare. I developed an interest in dentistry after learning of its combination of art and science through UAB's Pre-Dental Society. After completing my undergraduate degree concentrating in Spanish, I entered the UAB School of Dentistry. My time in dental school was enriched because of my relationships with my classmates and professors, but also through my involvement in organizations such as the Student National Dental Association (SNDA) and U.A.B.S.O.D. International Club. After graduation from dental school, I moved to New York City to complete my general practice residency at the Brooklyn VA Hospital.
